Joi Travis

Attorney Travis holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Alabama State University in Political Science. 13 months after undergraduate school begin, Attorney Travis completed a Master’s degree in Public Administration with an emphasis in Public Policy from Auburn University in Montgomery, AL. In 2016, Attorney Travis completed coursework for her Juris Doctor Degree at Birmingham School of Law. Attorney Travis became licensed to practice law in Alabama in 2017. During that same year, Travis Law, LLC was launched which served clients across the state in the fields of Probate, Family and Criminal matters as well as Personal Injury.
Attorney Travis is barred with the Alabama State Bar Association and the Federal District Court of the Northern District of Alabama. Since becoming a barred attorney, Attorney Travis has been active and maintained membership with the Birmingham Bar Association and The Alabama Bar Association. She has participated in and organized events and CLE’s and attended Annual meetings and other professional development events.
Other affiliations of Attorney Travis include: Birmingham Volunteer Lawyers Program, The Alabama Association for Justice, The American Association for Justice, The Southern Trial Lawyers Association, Alabama Lawyers Association and the Magic City Bar Association.
Before becoming licensed, Attorney Travis was a Crowder Fellow with the Birmingham Bar Association. She has also held internships with the Alabama Association for Justice and the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Currently, Joi serves as President for the Birmingham School of Law Foundation, Chairperson for Sierra Club Alabama Chapter, Board Member for the
Sloss Furnace Foundation Board and Policy Chairperson for the Cahaba River Society Board. She is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc and The Order of the Eastern Star.
Before going to law school, Joi exercised her passion for engagement and politics by being an active member of many organizations such as the Alabama Democratic Executive Committee, The NAACP, The United Negro College Fund, and Black Youth Vote. After becoming an Attorney, Joi accepted a position as Political Director with The Committee to Elect Jospeh Siegelman Alabama Attorney General.
Over the last 20 years, Attorney Travis has honed her skills of engagement through opportunities with The Alabama Democratic Party, The Alabama Democratic Conference, The League of Women Voters, The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, The Alabama and Ohio Secretary of States office, The Alabama and Ohio Senate and the National Center on Black Civic Participation.
Over her career of more than 20 years of service, Attorney Travis has engaged with numerous organizations such as: NAACP, Rock the Vote, The Democratic Party, The Girl Scouts of America, Upward Bound, Future Business Leaders of America, The Urban League, Black Voters Matter, and many other organizations that fight for equity and inclusion in all communities across
Alabama.
