Andrew Duxbury

Andrew is a professor of clinical geriatrics at UAB school of medicine where he has been involved in clinical care of the elderly in community settings, administration of medical programs for the aged including hospice, home health, house calls and medical case management, and educational endeavors for both professionals and the community at large. He was one of the first out medical faculty hired by UAB and has quietly worked within the institution for decades to improve conditions for the LGBTQIA+ community as patients and employees. In addition to his medical work, he has a career in music and theatrical performance and has been a fixture on local stages and is a member of both the Opera Birmingham and Alabama Symphony Orchestra choruses. He is also the author of a three volume sociological history of the pandemic cum memoir, The Accidental Plague Diaries. He has received multiple awards for his medical work, his community leadership, and his writing.
